What is Graphics/Desktop Publishing?

What is Graphics and Desktop Publishing?  After seeing my truck with my business name on it a gentleman stopped me one day outside of the local 7-11 and asked me, “Just what the heck is a Graphic?”  I smiled and told him that folks are exposed to Graphics everyday, they just don’t notice or know it.  Desktop Publishing is the newspaper you read everyday and Graphics are the ads you see in the paper, the art you see on cars and trucks and even the signs and billboards you see as you travel up and down the road. Graphics are brochures, business cards, business logos, menus, CD covers, posters, flyers, newsletters and the list goes on.  Think of it this way, if it wasn’t for the graphic artist how would you know if the bag of potato chips you just bought were Lay’s or UTZ?  Would you be able to tell the difference between a can of chili and a can of dog food?  How about grabbing that tub of toothpaste, or is it hemorrhoid medicine?  Every time you go into a grocery store you should be grateful there are Graphic artists out there designing the artwork that goes on all of the different products. If it’s printed material, a Graphic artist had a hand in it.
